China's Top Legislator Meets DPRK Leader: Strengthening Bilateral Ties

China's top legislator, Zhao Leji, who serves as the chairman of China's National People's Congress Standing Committee and is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with Kim Jong Un, the general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and the president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), in Pyongyang on April 13, 2024. 

Zhao led a delegation from China consisting of party and government officials on an official goodwill visit to the DPRK.


During the meeting, Zhao conveyed the regards and good wishes of General Secretary Xi Jinping to Kim. He highlighted the significance of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the DPRK, emphasizing the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two countries over the years. 

Zhao reaffirmed China's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the DPRK under the guidance of the leadership of both parties.

Kim reciprocated the goodwill expressed by Zhao and emphasized the historical ties between the DPRK and China. He reiterated the DPRK's commitment to enhancing cooperation with China across various fields and expressed readiness to deepen friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

After the meeting, Zhao visited the Chinese embassy in Pyongyang and met with representatives of overseas Chinese in the DPRK before departing from the country.
